The drawings and paintings I create concern themselves with time and
memory and the mundane moments that everyone experiences daily but
often do not remember.
I begin with taking a photograph or calling on an observation or memory--freezing a moment in time.
I replace those moments with a painting or photo, which itself, becomes a kind of fiction,
an approximation of what once was. I seek to elevate the mundane to the exalted; to preserve time and
memory. The layering of fiction and reality in my work reflects back the intricate
layering of memory and experience that punctuate the quotidian. My drawings exploit the transparent
qualtiy of vellum and I utilise pins to highlight areas of the the piece, especially those drawings
on the bottom layers. This multi-layered tableau creates scenes where different areas of the recessed drawings
are more focused while others are obscured, again briging the viewer back to the human experience of memory's
multi-dimensionality and illusory qualities.
